If there is one thing to say about rack servers is they don’t really fit nicely under a desk or behind a monitor. They really don’t fit anywhere else but in a rack. Since I was not able to find a real rack at a reasonable price I decided to create my own out of scrap lumber.
I didn’t want to mess with drilling out steel tubing and aluminum wouldn’t hold up under the weight. I finally decided to use some old 2×4’s that I had laying around. Since I had no worries about maximizing space, 1×4’s were used to support the servers.
I added a port-a-mate adjustable mobile base that fit perfectly and makes the rack completely mobile of those times when I need to get behind to add or remove cables or hardware.
