Sometimes I like to swing through the toy section at Target to see what kind of cool “Turn a toy into a robot” ideas I can come up with.  The other day, I found one of those toy spy cameras and handheld remote monitor on clearance.  I couldn’t pass it up.  After I explained to my wife that I bought the toy for myself and neither of my kids, I proceeded to put batteries in it and test it out!

I was actually quite impressed that you could add a memory card and record videos as well as watching it live on the handheld remote.

When I told my daughter that we were going to attach it to my robot and see what things look like from it’s perspective, she was ecstatic.  And so was I.  We came up with a plan of temporarily mounting it by some industrial velcro and some zip ties.  It ended up being a hack job and not very fancy but it worked for our purposes.

A little velcro and zip ties can fasten just about anything...At least for a little while.

The camera and monitor combination is actually quite impressive Supposedly it goes up to a 500 foot range.
